Fall Produce at HEB and Recipe Inspo 🎃🍠

Chayote Squash

Chayote Squash at HEB Grocery Stores in Texas

Chayote squash is native to Guatemala, and is in peak season from October to March. It's low cal, low sodium and a good source of potassium and fiber.

Try these three chayote squash recipes:

  • Stuffed Chayote Squash – A savory dish where chayote is stuffed with cheese and topped with bread crumbs. [Recipe here]

  • Pickled Chayote – A quick and easy pickling recipe perfect for adding a zesty kick to salads or tacos. [Recipe here]

  • HEB's Chayote Squash Medley – Mix chayote with other fall squashes for a colorful and healthy side dish. [Recipe here]

Pears

Pears are crisp, sweet, and perfect for Fall. Try them in salads, baked into pies, or simply snack on them as is.

Here are 3 ways to enjoy them:

  • Steak, Pear and Walnut Salad – A fresh salad with steak, pears, blue cheese, walnuts, and a balsamic vinaigrette. [Recipe here]

  • Roasted Pears with Cinnamon – A simple yet flavorful dessert, topped with vanilla ice cream. [Recipe here]

  • Upside Down Pear Pie – A beautiful and delicious dessert with pears, dried cranberries, and a buttery crust. [Recipe here]

Sweet Potatoes

These Fall favorites are a must for cozy meals. Roast them, mash them, or use them in soups—the options are endless! If you need a quick side, we love the HEB steam-in-bag sweet potatoes, ready in 8 minutes!

I love how creative people are getting with stuffing sweet potatoes, or using them as burger buns (big fan of this!).

Here are some recipes worth checking out:

  • Cajun Burgers with Sweet Potato Buns – Using sweet potatoes as buns is delicious and guilt-free. It's one of my favorite bun substitutions. [Recipe here]

  • Chipotle Beef Stuffed Sweet Potatoes – A spicy, stuffed sweet potato. [Recipe here]

  • Southwestern Corn & Sweet Potato Chowder – A warm and hearty soup with gold potatoes, sweet potatoes, sweet corn and green chiles. [Recipe here]

Golden Berries

Golden berries should be coming soon and bring a pop of color and tangy-sweet flavor to the Fall lineup. Add them to salads, desserts, or enjoy them on their own.

  • Golden Berry Salsa – A refreshing, Fall pico de gallo [Recipe here]

  • Maple Poached Golden Berries – With barrel aged maple vinegar and mesquite honey [Recipe here]

  • Shrimp & Veggie Saute with Golden Berries Sauce – Goldenberries, jalapeño, onion and garlic sauce, yum! [Recipe here]

Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts are at their best in the Fall. Roast them with olive oil and a little balsamic for a simple yet delicious side.

  • Bacon-Glazed Brussels Sprouts – Bacon jam. Enough said. [Recipe here]

  • Brussels Sprouts Sourdough Gratin – Baked with a creamy sauce and sour dough bread cubes for a comforting dish. [Recipe here]

  • Spicy Shredded Brussels Sprout & Cranberry Salad – A crunchy, fresh salad with Fischer & Wieser Cherry Pomegranate Habanero Sauce. [Recipe here]

Grapes!

Moon Drops, Gum Drops, Cotton Candy, Fruit Punch—HEB stocks some seriously cool grape varieties all season long. Perfect for snacking or adding to a fruit salad.

Pie Pumpkins

Whether you’re baking a pie or roasting it for a savory dish, pie pumpkins are a fall essential.

Spaghetti Squash

Looking for a healthier pasta alternative? Spaghetti squash is a Fall favorite that’s easy to cook and delicious with your favorite sauce.

Try These Unique Spaghetti Squash Recipes:

  • Spicy Spaghetti Squash Boats – Garlic, turkey sausage, tomatoes [Recipe here]

  • Southwest Turkey Stuffed Spaghetti Squash – An intereting Tex Mex take that even includes Whataburger Creamy Pepper Signature Sauce. [Recipe here]

Apples

From Honeycrisp to Granny Smith, apples are abundant in the Fall. Great for snacking, baking, or making apple cider. HEB usually has a Sweet to Tart guide displayed above the apples to help you find new varieties you might like.

  • Stuffed Dessert Apples - filled with raisins, pecans, brown sugar and butter. [Recipe here]

  • Apple Tamales - Sweet tamales that are perfect for Autumn [Recipe here]

  • Apple Pork Chops - Sweet and savory, honestly one of my fave dishes. [Recipe here]
